What we check, and what we don’t.

Tack On connects you with independent pros. We check what we can against official records, and we say plainly what we don’t check.

What we check

State licenses

Company and individual licenses are matched to TDLR or TSBPE public records before a pro can take requests, and re-checked regularly. A lapsed license stops new requests.

Identity

Every pro verifies a government ID with a live selfie through Stripe Identity.

HVAC insurance

For HVAC companies we confirm general liability coverage with the insurer or agent, not just an uploaded certificate.

What we don’t check

We don't run criminal background checks, and we don't inspect or warrant anyone's work. A license tells you the state allows someone to do the work; it doesn't tell you about price or quality.

Tack On is not a contractor and doesn't perform the work. You agree on the visit, the price and the work with the pro you pick.

Your details stay private

Pros see the job, the timing and a rough area. Your name, address and phone number go only to the pro you pick, and only for your request.

We encrypt your address and phone number, and we never publish them or send them to advertising or analytics tools.

Avoiding scams

Tack On never charges homeowners and never asks you for card details.
The pro you pick is shown with their name, company and the licenses we checked. Check that the person who arrives matches.
Agree the price before work starts, and be wary of large cash deposits.
